A pony has a bright and useful future thanks to members of the H&H online forum, who formed a horsebox chain to get him to his new home.
On 23 December forum member “Wonkey Donkey” – a police sergeant in Peterborough, Cambs – asked for help to rehome a 10.2hh stallion.
The pony, named Cracker by forum users, was a stray that had been with the police for 21 days.
If a new home could not be found, he would be destroyed at a local hunt kennels.
The Hope Pastures charity in Leeds offered to take him on, but that posed the problem of how to get him there.
Forum member Susan Walker said: “A relay of H&H members was arranged for 27 December and Cracker changed horsebox at several points up the A1.”
He has now been gelded and rehomed with Katy Smith, who provides therapy ponies and pony parties in Co Durham.
“I have a pony and needed another, as the therapy side of my work is taking off,” said Katy.
Once trained, Cracker will visit care homes and hospices and be the guest of honour at birthday parties.
