More than 60 horses and ponies are expected to converge outside St John’s Church in Hyde Park for the 43rd annual Horsemen’s Sunday on 19 September.
The proceedings start at 12pm with a church service on horseback, which is then followed by the blessing of the horses where every horse and rider will be awarded a rosette.
The Reverend Stephen Mason, vicar of St John’s said: “This occasion is one of the most colourful events in the Hyde Park calendar. After all, how often do you get to see a cloaked member of the clergy on horseback these days?”
Horsemen’s Sunday was started in 1968 to highlight the need to maintain stables along the north of Hyde Park and is traditionally attended by the Lord Mayor of Westminster and local MPs.
