Horse rescued from being trapped by chain on beach

  • A horse has been rescued from a Welsh beach after becoming trapped by an underwater chain as the tide was coming in.

Chloe Spicer, an employee at The Galley beach bistro overlooking the area, said that she saw a female rider exercising her two horses on the beach at Llanbedrog, part of the Lleyn peninsula — something that is quite common in the area.

“She was riding one horse and leading another in a bridle,” she said. “They headed out to play in the sea as the tide was quite far out at the time.”

Coastguards were called to the scene at about 3pm on Wednesday (3 June) after one of the horses got a hind leg entangled in the chain and rope at the water’s edge.

“As the horse struggled the rope attached to the chain became more tangled round the leg,” said Chloe.

The horse was successfully released from the chain before the water reached ankle height. Both horse and rider were unhurt in the incident.
