Horse rescued after spending nearly 30hr trapped underground [PICS/VIDEO]

  • A horse from Yorkshire has been rescued after being stuck down a hole for nearly 30 hours.

The 14-year-old mare, called Sianey, fell almost 12ft down the hole after stepping on a manhole cover in the field on Monday (7 July) at around 4.15pm.

The horse was then trapped underground.

12 firefighters dug down with a mechanical digger and drilled through the cement walls to the chamber to free the horse. The animal was finally freed at around 9.15pm on Tuesday (8 July).

Sianey was unhurt in the ordeal and only suffered minor scrapes.

“This was a very technical rescue which required the expertise of a very skilled team,” said station manager Andy Newman.

“In total the horse was underground for almost 30 hours and has walked away with only superficial injuries. This is one lucky horse and a very relieved owner.”
