  • Police in Weston-Super-Mare are appealing for witnesses to a road accident early this morning in which a horse was killed and its rider injured.

A 16-year-old girl was riding her horse along Banwell Road in Hutton at 7.15am this morning (Thursday, 10 September) when they are believed to have been struck by a car.

Weston-Super-Mare police were called to reports of the incident, shortly after which the animal’s owner and a vet arrived.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset constabulary said: “The horse died at the scene shortly after the incident.”

A police report states that the rider did not suffer serious injuries. She was taken to Weston General Hospital and discharged shortly after.

The driver has been reported for careless and inconsiderate driving.
