Government backs development of wound treatment

  • The British government has agreed to support the development of a wound care product designed for animals and humans.

Willingsford — a small Southampton-based medical company — has received a £250,000 grant to help the development of their wound-healing product, SertaSil.

“The funding is a fabulous endorsement of SertaSil,” said Willingsford’s Dr Frank Sams-Dodd.

“It is recognition that we are developing a technically innovative product that has tremendous potential.”

A clinical study has show that SertaSil accelerates the healing process of wounds by almost 50%, when compared to antibiotic and antiseptic treatment.

The product is in a powder form, making it easy to apply to wound surfaces on animals mdash; including horses.

“We need to collect data from dogs and horses, prepare a prototype sample and develop the final product for commercialisation. The grant will be important for achieving this,” added Dr Sams-Dodd.
