Florida bids to host 2018 World Equestrian Games

  • Palm Beach International Equestrian Centre in Wellington, Florida, is to bid to host the 2018 World Equestrian Games.

The bid is being planned by Equestrian Sport Productions (ESP), the company which hosts the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival at Palm Beach.

ESP is headed by Michael Stone, a former secretary-general of horse sport’s governing body the FEI.

The company has pumped more than $20million (£13.3million) into the 150-acre showground over the past three years.

Wellington mayor Darrell Bowen said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for Wellington to participate in something widespread and renowned around the world.”
