First palomino PRE imported into the UK

  • The first palomino PRE — purebred Spanish horse — has been imported into the UK.

There are fewer than 70 male palomino PREs in existence and the yearling colt Petunio Aldara (Peter) is currently the only one in the UK.

A director of the British Association for the Purebred Spanish Horse (BAPSH) Samantha Tilley brought Peter to her Hampshire base last month.

For more than 30 years the only colours accepted into the Spanish stud book had been bay, black and grey. But in 2002 the rules were changed to allow all colours except piebalds and skewbalds.

“It is really nice to be able to see the original colours of Spanish horses — that had almost become extinct — coming back,” Samantha told H&H.

“We hope to do some in-hand showing with Peter and when he’s older we’ll have him graded and stand him at stud.”
