Eventing’s FEI Classics series will continue next season

  • Eventing’s lucrative FEI Classics series — which looked in doubt after sponsor HSBC pulled out — will continue for the 2013-14 season, with backing from the FEI.

The series, which has been running since 2008, rewards success in the world’s four-star horse trials.

Andrew Nicholson won $150,000 (£94,000) when scooping the 2012-13 title at Burghley last month (8 September).

However the 2013-14 series — which kicked off at Pau last week (23-27 October) — will have a reduced prize pot. The winner will take home $40,000 (£24,742).

Lisa Lazarus, FEI chief of business development and strategy, said the FEI was “in the process of agreeing terms with individual organisers”.

She added: “We are also actively seeking a sponsor for the series for subsequent seasons.”
