Rider killed at Somerford Park Horse Trials

  • The eventing world is reeling from the news a rider was killed in a fall in the CIC1* at Somerford Park Horse Trials earlier today (Sunday 18 August).

Somerford Park abandoned the competition following the incident.

In a statement from British Eventing, BE Chief Executive Mike Etherington-Smith said: “We would ask that at this extremely sad time that people using social media respect the fact that the rider’s family may not be aware of the accident today.”

But the eventing world had already turned to twitter to express shock at the news and offer support to the rider’s family and friends.
