The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust (GHDT) is asking for donations of old bits to help ease the suffering of working equines in The Gambia.
Horses and donkeys are used in The Gambia for farming and transport, but local bits cause severe mouth and tongue injuries, resulting in malnutrition and even death.
The GHDT, a UK charity working to improve health and welfare standards, ships donated bits out to The Gambia, as well as providing veterinary assistance and education to local farmers.
Unwanted 4-5” bits can be taken along to a fundraising bitting talk with expert Heather Hyde, run by the GHDT and bit manufacturers Neue Schule, at Somerford Park on 19th April at 7pm.
Tickets are £5 each and can be bought on the door or from Hope Valley Saddlery, Somerford Park.
Alternatively, bit donations can be sent by post — Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust, Brewery Arms Cottage, Stane St, Ockley, Surrey, RH5 5TH — or taken to a collection point.
