Popular saddle manufacturer Devoucoux has introduced a new training device to help encourage horses to work gymnastically and correctly on the lunge.
The GYMER has been designed to replicate the rider’s hand and help educate the horse during lunge work. According to Devoucoux, the training aid “helps to encourage a softer, more elastic outline and establishes stronger top-line muscles”.
The system uses a roller with an extension coming forwards above the withers (see pic). This carries an elasticated cable, which is fitted to the horse’s bit, simulating the position of the reins when the rider is in the saddle.
The roller also has a d-ring to which the lunge rein can be attached and then passed through the bit ring before going back to the trainer’s hand to encourage the correct inside bend. Alternatively the lunge rein can be attached to a lunge cavesson in the traditional fashion.
There are two tension options in the elastic: one for a younger less experienced horse and one for the more established horse. The trainer can adjust the tension to the idea level of work for the individual horse.
The GYMER is priced at £495.
