  • An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of Derbyshire woman who was thrown from her horse after it was spooked.

Derby Coroner’s Court heard on Tuesday (18 November) that 43-year-old Loretta Jane Topliss, of Abbey Lodge Close, Newhall near Swadlincote was riding with a friend in Robin Croft Lane, Hartshorne on Saturday 15 November when she fell at 11.15am.

She died in hospital in Stoke-on-Trent 12 hours later.

A local newspaper has reported that Ms Topliss’ horse, thought to be an ex-racer, took off at full speed along the road and she was thrown.
