Cheltenham racecourse is encouraging racing fans to vote for AP McCoy in this year’s BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Award by hosting a race in his honour.
This year’s £150,000 Grade Three December Gold Cup, one of the highlights of The International on Saturday 11 December, will be run as the Vote AP Gold Cup.
Cheltenham’s managing director, Edward Gillespie said: “AP has won every challenge jump racing has to offer. This is a rare opportunity for our serial Champion to compete against the best from other sports. He deserves all support we can give him”.
The 15-times champion jockey is on the shortlist of ten sportsmen and women for the award, which is voted for by the public on Sunday 19 December.
The voting phoneline’s number will be given during the live show on BBC One, the BBC Sport website, and BBC Radio 5 Live.
