Showjumpers Ben Maher and Scott Brash are among the list of nominated British entries for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Normandy next month.
Also included in Great Britain’s shortlist are Guy Williams, Joe Clee, Jessie Drea, Spencer Roe and no less than three Whitakers — Michael, Robert and William.
Nick Skelton and Big Star were among the entries, but last week the 11-year-old stallion was ruled out of contention with a leg injury.
Ben and Scott were in Great Britain’s gold medal-winning teams at the London Olympics in 2012 and at the 2013 European Championships in Denmark, where they were joined by Michael Whitaker, now a veteran of 12 championships.
A total of 38 nations are sending teams and a further 16 countries will be represented only by individuals in the showjumping world championships, which take place in Normandy, France, from 1-7 September.
