Britain goes for Nations Cup glory at home


  • Three members of Britain’s triumphant Olympic showjumping team will try and secure some much needed points in the Furisiyya FEI Nations Cup at the Longines Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead today (Friday 2, August).

    The team is currently lying in 6th place in the league heading into the 7th of 8 rounds. Only the top 6 teams in the league will secure a place at the Nations Cup final in Barcelona next month (26 – 29 September).

    Ben Maher gave Britain a timely boost yesterday (1, August) when he and Aristo Z won The Bunn Leisure Trophy at Hickstead. Ben will be riding his Olympic partner, Tripple X III, in the Nations Cup today.

    His Olympic teammate Peter Charles will be on 11-year-old mare Murka’s Odie de Frevent and Scott Brash will be onboard Ursula XII. William Funnell will join the Olympic trio with the Billy Stud’s 12-year-old stallion Billy Congo, whio has been enjoying excellent results on the Global Champions Tour recently.

    The starting order, which was determined by a draw held at Hickstead, will be: 1. USA, 2. Switzerland, 3. France, 4. Ireland, 5. Ukraine, 6. Great Britain, 7. The Netherlands, 8. Germany.
