American jockey dies after fall at racecourse

  • A California-based jockey died on Christmas Day, after being thrown from a racehorse at Los Alamitos five days earlier.

Sam Thompson Jnr, 36, had been on a life-support machine since the fall from 2-year-old filly Harems Dynasty.

Thompson, of Long Beach, had missed much of the 2008 season because of a broken foot.
