Irish opposition party fight against staghunting ban

  • Irish opposition party Fine Gael has promised to repeal any staghunting ban if it gets into government.

A proposal to ban staghunting — and close down Ireland’s only staghounds, the Ward Union hunt — was announced by the Irish coalition government last autumn.

Fine Gael environment spokesman Phil Hogan said the party opposed the move, believing it to be a prelude to a full hunting ban in the Republic.
