Hunting stalwart Rodney Ellis dies aged 71

  • Rodney Ellis – who devoted his life to hunt service – has died at the age of 71.

In a career that spanned more than 55 seasons, Rodney fulfilled various hunting roles at the Zetland, Morpeth, Tiverton, West Norfolk, Old Berks and South Hereford.

He was master and huntsman of the United Pack during the late 1980s and 1990s.

He later hunted the Tedworth hounds for nine seasons from 1996.

Rory Knight Bruce, his joint-master with both the United and Tedworth, said of him: “He was a remarkable huntsman of the ‘old school’, tempering his sportsmanship with humour and leadership.”

His funeral is at 2pm at Lydbury North church, Shrops, on Friday, 2 March.
