New warmblood society approved in Ireland

  • THE first foal to be registered by the new Warmblood Studbook of Ireland was born on St Patrick’s Day (15 March), the day before the society was approved by the Irish parliament.

The approval, by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith, ends Horse Sport Ireland and the Irish Horse Board’s monopoly on sport horse breeding.

The studbook has been founded by Co Clare residents Tom Reed and Dawn Kelly, who own Morningside Stud, and breeder and trainer Claire Wood.

The first foal, Aibhlinn Bella M2S, was bred by Morningside Stud.
