Carl Hester’s Facebook fans name new foal

  • A foal out of the full sister of Olympic gold medal-winning gelding Valegro has been named via a Facebook competition.

“Is this the best bred foal ever?” asked part-owner Claire Hester, who owns the chestnut colt (by Dimaggio, out of Weidyfleur, pictured above) with Carl Hester.

The foal was born on 11 May and Carl ran a competition on his Facebook page to name him.

The winning name had to start with an I according to the naming rules of the KWPN (all foals born this year must begin with an I) and more than 5,000 suggestions were submitted.

Facebook fan Mal Haigh suggested the winning name, Integro.

It “seems very apt and means honest and strong (or thereabouts),” said Claire, who used to be married to Carl’s step-father.

The owners chose a “fruity” stablename to complement Valegro’s stable name Blueberry — the foal will be known as Mango at home.

He joins other offspring out of Weidyfleur — all owned by Claire and Carl — including two-year-old Uthopia colt Euphoria and a yearling filly by Lord Leatherdale, named Hester La Vista.
