Luhmühlen winner Tim Price: 7 facts you might not know

  • Eventer Tim Price hit the headlines this weekend when he clinched the CCI4* title at Luhmühlen in Germany with his ride Wesko — the biggest win of his career to date.

If this is the first you’ve heard of the 35-year-old New Zealander, H&H is here to get you up to speed on eventing’s latest star.

7 facts you might not know about Tim Price

    1. Tim is married to eventer Jonelle Price (née Richards), who he met at a jumping show in 1998. The pair started going out in 2001 and Tim proposed in 2010. They finally tied the knot in January 2013.

    2. Tim and Jonelle came to Britain in the summer of 2003 with their advanced horses Desamoray and Mazetto to prepare for Burghley Horse Trials.

    3. While Tim finished 42nd at Burghley in 2003 with Desamoray, Mazetto got travel sick and never started.

    4. The following year Tim and Desarmoray won the advanced at Belton and and Jonelle finished 17th at Badminton with Mazetto. Before long both Tim and Jonelle were hooked on the British eventing scene…

    5. The pair moved to the UK permanently in 2005 and are based at Mere Farm in Wiltshire, which is owned by Tim and Melissa Brown. The yard boasts 20 looseboxes, indoor and outdoor arenas, a jumping field and cross-country fences including water.

    6. One of Tim’s former rides Boondoggle — who he started competing in Britain in 2005 — was rescued from a “future with dog food”. Tim produced him to advanced before he was sold to Kitty King, who competed him at 4-star.

    7. 2014 has been a season Tim won’t forget — for all the right reasons. He finished 9th at Badminton with 11-year-old Ringwood Sky Boy, won the CIC3* with 11-year-old Wesko at Tattersalls in May and then took the CCI4* at Luhmühlen with Wesko yesterday (15 June).
