Although Blair Castle in Perthshire has never hosted a senior championship previously, it has run two young rider Europeans in recent years (2007 and 2011). On both occasions, Britain won the team gold.
As the host nation at a Europeans can field 12 riders rather than the usual six, this Europeans provides a brilliant opportunity for Britain to try out more up-and-coming combinations at senior level.
The pairs selected for the championship are: Laura Collett (Grand Manoeuvre), Dani Evans (Smart Time), William Fox-Pitt (Bay My Hero), Pippa Funnell (Sandman 7), Wills Oakden (Greystone Midnight Melody), Kitty King (Persimmon), Gemma Tattersall (Arctic Soul), Izzy Taylor (KBIS Briarlands Matilda), Oliver Townend (Fenyas Elegance), Francis Whittington (Easy Target), Nicola Wilson (One Two Many), Holly Woodhead (DHI Lupison).
