With the longer days fast-approaching and long school and university holidays on the horizon, perhaps you fancy having a go at producing a project horse. Take a look at just a few of the horses for sale on the Horse & Hound website this week.
1. ‘Really scopey’
Height: 17hh
Age: seven
Gender: mare
Selling points: “This horse has been professionally schooled and she has bags of potential — in the right hands she will go far. She has also hacked but can buck or rear if out of work for a long time. She moves beautifully, loves to jump and is good to catch, shoe and clip.”
2. ‘Potential top class event pony’
Height: 14.2hh
Age: five
Gender: mare
Selling points: “This quiet, homebred pony has been backed and is now being ridden. She has lovely paces and a great attitude. She has a careful, scopey jump and has hacked out alone and in company, proving to be very straightforward.”
3. ‘Fantastic event project’
Height: 16hh
Age: eight
Gender: mare
Selling points: “This horse has a great temperament and three correct paces. She is very easy on the flat and loves jumping. She hacks alone or in company and has manners to die for.”
4. ‘Bred for the job’
Height: 16.1hh
Age: four
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “This quality homebred gelding is out of a thoroughbred National Hunt mare, by a young eventing stallion with Jumbo and Primitive Rising bloodlines. He was broken in the autumn and is riding well. He has hacked and started jumping, proving to have a bold and 100% genuine disposition. He has a very kind temperament and has huge potential for the future and BYEH classes.”
5. ‘Super Appaloosa’
Height: 15.1hh
Age: 10
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “This horse has done all Riding Club activities with an amateur rider. He loves to jump and is super to hack alone and in company. He works in a nice outline in walk and trot but he has an extremely sensitive mouth and can be fussy in the canter. He is ridden in a snaffle and moves beautifully. Once he is used to his rider he is like a dobbin.”

6. ‘Will give everything a go’
Height: 16hh
Age: eight
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “‘Samson’ is an Irish cob. We purchased Samson for our riding school and were told he just required turn out as had become grumpy in stable living in full time. He has been great for two weeks — schooling, hacking and even has been cross-country. However he has now become quirky and has been known to buck and become tense while schooling for no apparent reason. He will come right in no time at all for an experienced rider — he just needs riding through it with someone who isn’t fazed by his behaviour. He has never bolted or reared. He has a super, brave jump over showjumps and cross-country fences and would easily hunt.”
