If you want a horse or pony that’s (probably) going to look after you in all sorts of situations, take a look at our selection of cobs for sale on the Horse & Hound website this week.
1. ‘Always eager to please’
Height: 15.3hh
Age: five
Gender: mare
Selling points: “‘Nancy’ is a sweet and genuine horse who is your typical ‘old head on young shoulders’ type and is a wonderful all-rounder. She is beautifully marked and very well put together (she would do very well showing). She is exceptionally easy to do in all respects, and stands like a dream to clip, groom, bath, plait etc. Nancy is straight-forward and always eager to please. She loads first time every time and travels well. She is used to having children and dogs around her feet as we are a busy riding school. Her ridden work is coming on well, and she works in a soft outline and moves beautifully. She knows all the basic aids and has recently started doing some lateral work. This horse has been slowly and carefully produced at a professional yard. She stands perfectly to be mounted and is always patient. She has hacked out alone and in company, and has seen most types of traffic, including cyclists, cars, and lorries. Has been cross-country a handful of times, which she has always thoroughly enjoyed and tried her hardest. She goes through water, jumps ditches, small hedges and logs and would happily go hunting. Nancy has also started jumping coloured fences and makes a good shape over a fence.”
2. ‘Heart of gold’
Height: 14.2hh
Age: eight
Gender: mare
Selling points: “‘Rosie’ is a cracking cob with a heart of gold. She is very good to handle and is happy to stand for hours to be groomed and washed. She is easy to load and has excellent manners. She is equally happy hacking on her own or with others, going first or last and is excellent in traffic. Rosie has hunted in Ireland with previous owners and is bold across country without getting silly. Rosie has attended local competitions, showjumping, cross-country and fun rides with both my daughter and son.”
3. ‘The perfect Irish cob’
Height: 153cm
Age: 11
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “This top quality pure Irish Draught gelding who is a half brother to multi-champion Polaris and the lovely Kelston Madam Butterfly. A beautiful example of the perfect Irish cob, he has it all — the looks, the movement and the manners. Genuine reason for sale of this superbly handsome and loveable chap who is ready to go out and win.”
4. ‘Super little horse’
Height: 15.1hh
Age: eight
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “This Irish gypsy cob has shown both in-hand and under saddle — he has even done fancy dress. He has been on pleasure rides, seen hounds and jumped small fences. He has bags of potential and is good to do. He hacks alone and in company and even gives my eight-year-old nephew lead lessons.”
5. ‘Always willing to learn’
Height: 15hh
Age: five
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “‘Jonny’ is a lovely type to have around. He has been used previously for hacking and hunting but will happily pop a small course of fences and do some cross-country. He is a sweet Irish X cob type with a lovely easy going mild manner to match. He is starting to show a shape on the flat and is always willing to learn. Jonny has also been out doing some cross-country proving bold and willing. He will make a lovely little horse for someone wanting a sensible, easy all-rounder. Jonny is very easy to look after both in and out of the stable.”
