Zara Phillips has experienced the tragic lose one of her advanced rides, Tsunami II, after a fall at fence 15 on the cross-country course at Pau Horse Trials.
The current World Champion suffered a broken collarbone and the 10-year-old mare was found to have broken a vertebrae in her neck after being transported back to the veterinary clinic. She was then put down. Pau was the mare’s first attempt at four-star.
Pierre Michelet’s cross-country course claimed a number of notable scalps including Mary King, who had a refusal at fence 14 after nearly parting company with Call Again Cavalier at fence 13, and Clayton Fredericks, who fell at fence 11 with The Frog.
Bettina Hoy remains in the lead, ahead of husband Andrew, with Ruth Edge the highest placed British rider in sixth on Mayhem lll. Ruth had a stop on the cross country with Mr Dumbledore, who had been third after dressage, leaving them in 11th place.
