What you didn’t know about… Barry’s Best

  • Event rider Rosie Thomas tells H&H about her cross-country machine who loves a bath.

    Fact file

    Stable name: Baz

    Age: 18

    Height: 16.3hh

    Breed: thoroughbred-cross

    Sire: Tehran Missile

    Dam: Tango

    Discipline: eventing

    Owner: Rosie Thomas

    Groom: Claire Thomas (Rosie’s sister)

Best result: ninth at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials in 2009

    Four things you didn’t know…

1 He has completed 10 CCI****s: five Burghleys, four Badmintons and one Luhmühlen.

2 His thoroughbred sire Tehran Missile competed in endurance races, which may be where he gets his stamina from.

3 He was bred by a man called Barry Jasper, who decided he was too much for him and gave him to Tehran Missile’s owners. They called him Barry’s Best, after his breeder.

4 He loves gazing into the distance. At Badminton, Rosie could never graze him in front of the house because he would stand and stare at everything rather than concentrate on eating.
