British Eventing selectors have announced the squad for the World Equestrian Games in Jerez in September
The British eventing squad for the World Equestrian Games (WEG) is headed by the first, second and third-placed riders at Badminton, Pippa Funnell (Supreme Rock), William Fox-Pitt (Tamarillo) and Leslie Law (Shear H20), all members of the winning British team at last year’s European Championships.
Jeanette Brakewell, who always acts as trailblazer, has been forgiven her uncharacteristic fall at Badminton on Over To You and is also listed.
These four are joined by Tina Cook (Captain Christy), 12th at Badminton, and,for the first time on a senior squad, Polly Stockton (Eye Spy ll). Leslie’s other grey horse, Shear L’Eau, recently seventh on his four-star debut at Lexington, is also listed.
The team of four and two individuals will, in theory, bepicked from these six riders.
However, reserves include two newcomers who have recently shown form: Polly Jackson (Limestone Rise), best under-25 rider at Badminton, and Claire Phillips, 10th at Lexington on Capuchin.
Other reserves are the second horses of Pippa Funnell, William Fox-Pitt and Jeanette Brakewell, (Cornerman, Stunning and Plantagenet of Rushall respectively), plus Mary King with King Solomon, fourth at Chatsworth this weekend.
