Teenage event rider dies in fall

  • American teenager Mia Eriksson has died after her horse landed on her during a cross-country fall. The accident happened at Galway Downs Three-Day Event in Temecula, California, on 4 November.

Mia, 17, was riding her seven-year-old gelding Koryography in the CCI** when the accident happened. She was taken to Rancho Springs Hospital, Temecula, where she died.

Mia’s sister, Shana, 18, died in 2003 days after a riding accident when her horse fell on her after being frightened by cows.

Galway Downs organiser Robert Kellerhouse told H&H that Mia was killed in a slow rotational fall and that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
