Pippa Funnell out of WEG

  • Rolex Grand Slam winner Pippa Funnell will not take part in the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, due to a training setback for Primmore’s Pride.

Sharon Hunt and Tankers Town have been called up from the reserve list to join the squad of six. Hunt, 28, finished sixth at Badminton this year with Tankers Town, after producing a 49.6 pen dressage score and knocking one fence in the show jumping.

Primmore’s Pride, owned by Metier Consulting and Roger & Denise Lincoln, only returned to competition in the past few weeks, finishing fourth in the Advanced Intermediate at Salperton last weekend. This is the latest in a series of disappointments for Pippa Funnell, who recently retired Walk on Star due to ongoing problems with a splint.

    Britain’s WEG Squad

    • Mary King (44) Call Again Cavalier
    • Zara Phillips (24) Toytown
    • Oliver Townend (23) Flint Curtis
    • Sharon Hunt (28) Tankers Town
