Michael Ryan took the early lead in the Blue Grass Irish Eventing Super League last Sunday (25 March), winning the Open Intermediate at Ballindenisk with Dances With Wolves.
More than 33 riders contested the inaugural competition of the Super League, the first of seven events this season. Contestants will score points at each leg, with £1,400 presented to the highest scoring rider after the final competition in September.
Ryan’s victory earned him six points but Steven Smith, who finished second (five points) and third-placed Patricia Ryan (four points) are hot on his heels.
“The event went off brilliantly, and it was a great kick start to the year. It was a good, strong class, with plenty of entries, and a stiff competition,” Ryan said afterwards.
The Irish Super League continues on 31 March at Tyrella 1 with another open intermediate class, designed by Stuart Crawford and Jim Newsham.
