Le Lion abandoned due to exceptionally wet conditions

  • The FEI Eventing Championships for Young Horses in Le Lion d’Angers has been abandoned after dressage due to “exceptional” weather conditions.

The decision will come as no surprise to those who have seen photos on Twitter (pictured, posted by Kitty King), showing that the cross-country course had become one giant water jump.

In a statement on the event’s website, the organisers wrote: “Because of exceptional weather conditions, and after considering all alternatives [that would] preserve the safety of horses, riders and the public, no satisfactory solution has been found.

“As a result, the organisers, in agreement with officials of the International Equestrian Federation are sorry to announce the cancellation of the 27th Mondial du Lion.”

Riders that made the journey to Le Lion from the UK include Gemma Tattersall, Kitty King, William Fox-Pitt and Lucinda Fredericks.
