British eventers lie second in Aachen

  • Britain lie in second place after the dressage in the new team eventing competition at the CHIO Aachen.

The British team are just over eight marks behind the Germans, with the last competitor, Germany’s Frank Ostholt (pictured), holding the lead individually.

Frank scored 35.8 on Air Jordan 2, with whom he won Luhmühlen last year. The pair were 11th at Badminton this spring and were on the gold medal-winning team at last year’s World Equestrian Games in Aachen.

British team members Zara Phillips (Toytown) and Emily Baldwin (Drivetime) are sixth equal with Sweden’s Sara Algotsson (Robin Des Bois). All three scored 43.3.

Britain’s other team members are Sharon Hunt, 14th on Tankers Town (46.5) and Francis Whittington, 26th equal on Sir Percival III (57.1).

The eventers show jump this evening and go cross-country tomorrow.
