Disappointed competitors have heard today that although the 2012 Mitsubishi Motors Grassroots Championships may go ahead at another event later in the year, there is no chance that it will be at Badminton.
Badminton event director, Hugh Thomas explained why the cancelled championships cannot be re-scheduled at the venue.
He said: “The Grassroots Championships are organised as an integral part of the whole Badminton event and share services and infrastructure. To stage them as a stand-alone competition would not be viable, either financially or logistically.”
But Sue Eggleton, who qualified for the BE100 finals with her mare Nachtigall, said she was terribly disappointed.
She said: “At this point I don’t think I will ever be able to visit Badminton again, even as a spectator, as the feeling would just be too dreadful to bear.”
British Eventing (BE) chief executive Mike Etherington-Smith added: “One thing no-one can control is the weather but we are exploring all avenues to see what can be done to provide additional competition opportunities for our members and this includes rescheduling the Grassroots Championships.”

All competitors who were eligible for the 2012 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Grassroots Championships will remain eligible for any potential replacement fixture.
