Top riders reveal their Las Vegas World Cup hopes

  • The 2009 FEI World Cup Finals for dressage and show jumping get underway tomorrow (Thursday 16 April) in Las Vegas, and you can stay in touch with all the action on Horseandhound.co.uk through the show.

    Dressage

Following the news that Anky van Grusven was not allocated a wild card entry with her top horse Salinero, Isabel Werth is favourite to lift her third world cup final trophy with Satchmo, ahead of Anky with Painted Black.

Other competitors of note include Anky’s compatriote Adelinde Cornelissen, who has been in outstanding form with Parzival this season including winning the World Cup qualifier at Olympia in December.

America’s Steffen Peters will be sure of local support from his fellow Califorians and looks set to be in with a good chance of a medal after finishing fourth in last year’s Olympic Games. There are no British riders attending the dressage finals.

    Show jumping

Some 45 riders will be doing battle for the prestigious Rolex World Cup show jumping title, which is currently held by Meredith Michaels Beerbaum. She will be competing against the best show jumpers in the world including Britain’s Michael Whitaker and Ben Maher.
