German chestnut stallion joins Laura Bechtolsheimer’s yard

  • Laura Bechtolsheimer has added a young Mistral Hojris-lookalike to her stable of dressage horses.

The three-year-old Oldenburger chestnut stallion, by For Compliment out of Royal Dance, arrived in her yard last week from German rider Stefan Sandbrink.

“I don’t know much about him, because my parents went over to look at him,” said Laura. “I have sat on him and he’s athletic with fantastic paces, so he was worth a shot.”

The stallion is unlicensed and the Bechtolsheimers plan to have him gelded soon.

“He’s been pretty wild since the long journey from Germany, but hopefully he’ll settle down soon,” said Laura.

“He’ll probably spend most of the summer in a field, like all of our three-year-olds, and we’ll take it from there.”

And as for early comparisons with the great Mistral Hojris?

“He’s the same colour and has white on his face, that’s all,” said Laura.
