Aachen CHIO dressage

  • Isabell Werth led the German team to a 29th Nations Cup victory in Aachen, then won the grand prix special and freestyle on her World Champion Satchmo. She also picked up a grand prix CDI victory on her World Cup winner Warum Nicht.

Anky van Grunsven trailed Isabell in each competition — apart from the CDI freestyle, which she won on Painted Black. Jan Brink was ecstatic to be third in the freestyle on Bjorsells Briar (77.55%). He led the third-placed Swedish team in the Nations Cup competition.

Switzerland’s Sylvia Iklé was third individually in the grand prix, third in the special (75%) and fourth in the kür (76.95%), on Salieri.

Emma Hindle was best Briton, qualifying Lancet for the kür, in which they were 13th, and finishing 13th in the special on 67.8%.

Laura Bechtolsheimer had a difficult time, finishing near the bottom of the pile, though by the grand prix special she had Mistral Hojris better anchored to finish 15th on 67.6%.

Britain finished a demoralising last, behind France, in the Nations Cup.
