As we make our way into the Scottish summer we are getting ever closer to the Longines FEI European Eventing Championship at Blair Castle (10–13 September).
I hope you enjoy following my regular diary updates in the run up to the event to show what’s really going on behind the scenes.
As assistant director every day is very different so I am glad to have a fantastic team behind me including our office team Cordelia, Lucie, Lydia and Sophie who are all doing a sterling job.
Last week I had a productive meeting with our official champagne partner, Pol Roger.
We discussed in detail the special activities that will take place during the event, providing drinks for our official receptions and finalising the tent opening hours during the event to ensure the fizz is kept chilled all day; we look forward to sharing with you their plans closer to the event.
We have had a recent visit from our Technical Delegate, Des Hughes. He visited Blair Castle to
inspect the course with our Event Director, Alec Lochore. There has been a mass team effort to get the ground ready for the event which takes months of preparation. We have a site schedule which we follow; our Toro mower is in particular demand to keep the grass at an optimum length around the cross-country course and in the arenas.
I had a great time visiting the Royal Highland Show recently; if you attended you may have noticed some of our promotional material so we hope to also see you joining us in September at Blair Castle. We are delighted that the Royal Highland Society is sponsoring the British Showjumping Grand Prix at the event which promises to be a spectacular competition.
On another advertising note, we have received our new promotional road signs. If you are driving in Scotland from July you might spot them. They are eight foot by four foot, so they are hard to miss!
