What a tremendous way to start August! Sofie (our stable girl) and I made the long trip to Bangor and were rewarded with a tremendous win with Nikos Extra. He was given a beautiful ride by Adam Wedge and ran out an impressive winner.
I was slightly apprehensive at the sight of Richard Johnson bearing down on Adam, but luckily the rider had left a little bit up his sleeve and went on to win well!
To make the day even better, Sofie won the best turned out, so everyone was happy on the trip home.
New kids on the block
It is great that we have a few ‘summer’ horses to keep the flag flying for the yard as the ‘winter’ horses are getting ready to start cantering. We’ve been lucky enough to be able to buy quite a few new horses for this season and we also have some smashing new owners to join the existing ones. This gives us a lovely mix of old and new horses to go into battle with over the coming months.
One of the exciting things about being a new owner is choosing the racing colours that the horses run in, and Theresa from Treehouse Sporting Colours does a great job of sorting our yard with all the different colours that we need.
We currently have a new syndicate being formed for a gorgeous horse called Silk Train (pictured top) so there will be another new set of colours being made up for us very soon. Details of Silk Train can be found on our website www.alexandradunnracing.com.
Needs must
Currently we are on a week’s break from jump racing, so it’s time for us to do all the boring, but essential, jobs that we tend to put off. Our Oakley lorry is being serviced at the moment and the yard is having a bit of a makeover!
We have resurfaced the drive, topped all the paddocks and have generally had a good old tidy up. Also, we’re having a lorry load of trees and plants delivered which should really finish the job off well.
And, of course, we will be back racing next week, hopefully having more fun. Hope to see you out and about.
