Sarah Jenkins
Editor-in-Chief
Sarah is Horse & Hound's Editor-in-Chief and has more than 20 years experience as a journalist and editor, specialising in horses and equestrian sport. She has written for Horse & Hound magazine and website throughout her career, reporting from major championships including three Europeans and the World Equestrian Games. She has co-written books on equestrianism including The Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of Horses & Ponies. Her previous roles at Horse & Hound include brand development editor and dressage editor, and she was deputy editor of equestrian monthly Horse magazine for two years.
Sarah heads up Horse & Hound’s editorial team and is responsible for content strategy for the magazine and website. She also has responsibility for Horse & Hound’s brand extensions, working with the publishing and marketing teams to launch Equo, Horse & Hound’s event entry and management system, in 2015, and Horse & Hound's awards and Training Academy in 2016.
Sarah learnt to ride in a riding school in South Bucks aged 10 and has owned horses and ponies for 25 years. Her first pony was a three-year-old native, on whom she competed in showing, dressage, showjumping and hunter trials and was a member of the Pony Club. From 15, she contested affiliated eventing, showjumping and dressage with her first horse, an Irish Draught/thoroughbred, competing up to medium level dressage including regional championships.
Before going to London School of Economics for three years to earn her degree, Sarah spent a year working for and training with Olympic gold medallist event rider Leslie Law at his Inkberrow base, Worcestershire, where she also trained with Yogi Breisner and Kenneth Clawson, the then British team trainers. She groomed for Leslie at international events including Saumur. During her degree, Sarah continued to work part-time and train with dressage rider Louise Spate.
