HHO tests Rambo’s new DustBuster, which provides ears to tail protection against flies and dirt
The Rambo DustBuster rug from Horseware Ireland has been designed to protect your horse from annoying flying insects and the sun’s UV rays.
The rug is made from soft textured breathable polyester, which the manufacturers claim removes dust from the horse’s coat, cutting down on grooming time. It is a close fit and is designed to mimic the action of the horse’s coat, absorbing moisture, which helps to cool the horse as it evaporates.
The rug is extra deep and covers the horse from ears to tail with Rambo leg arches and a third cross-surcingle to ensure a close comfortable fit.
Available in white with black binding in sizes from 5’0″ – 7’3″.
Cost at around £100.

Tester’s comments
‘A rug that cuts down on grooming time’ – it must be too good to be true I thought when I agreed to test Rambo’s latestaddition to its range, the DustBuster.
However, I tried the rug on my 15.2hh mare both overnight in the stable and while turned out during the day and I admit I’m impressed – her coat does look much cleaner after she has worn it.
With its unusual design, the rug looks rather strange and my mare’s appearance has been likened to “a horse wearing a tubigrip” by other people on the yard.
Made from light breathable material, she has worn it in the field on a number of hot days without becoming sweaty, although she is quite warm when it’s taken off.
The zip under the neck is robust and, although a bit fiddly, is showing no signs of wear. I was a little concerned by how tightly the rug fitted, particularly around the base of the head and neck, but there have been no signs of rubbing.
With its generous depth, unusual cross-surcingles and substantial tail flap it offers real protection from the flies and prevents the coat from becoming bleached by the sun.
Although white may not seem like a very sensible colour for an outdoor rug, it washed well in the machine at 40degrees and dried overnight without shrinking or stretching.
Verdict: Although quite expensive, the DustBuster is worth the investment for a horse which is badly affected by the flies or the sun, and it is great forkeeping your horse clean the night before a show.
