‘Few horses have won so much for their country’: farewell to multiple medal-winner
‘It was a very hard decision to take, and terribly sad’
Para dressage rider Anne Dunham first represented Great Britain in 2002 at the European Championships.
66-year-old Anne has always spent her life surrounded by horses. When she was just 16 she spent her weekends running a yard of 80 horses.
Anne has been selected to represent Great Britain at the forthcoming 2015 European para dressage Championships in Deauville. Here she will ride Lady Josephy Trust’s 14-year-old appaloosa stallion, LJT Lucas Normark.
A grade 1a rider, Anne was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis shortly after the birth of her daughter when she was 27. She has been wheelchair bound since the age of 30.
After her husband sold his business when Anne was 40, they bought a farm in Wales which they turned into a holiday home and riding school. This finally gave Anne the opportunity to take her para dressage career seriously.
In 2003, Anne was awarded the British Dressage Outstanding Contribution Award for her services to Paralympic dressage. Anne has won 12 gold as well as countless silver and bronze medals at World, European and Paralympic level – most recently securing team gold and two individual silver medals at the 2013 European Championships in Herning.
