BSJA adopts EFI coaching programme

  • The BSJA is adopting the Equestrian Federation of Ireland’s (EFI) coaching strategy. At Dublin Horse Show last week it was agreed that the BSJA will integrate the EFI Coaching Programme into the British Equestrian Federation’s (BEF) UK Coaching Certificate.

Both the FEI and the Scottish Equestrian Federation (SEA) have already adopted the EFI Coaching Programme. According to the BSJA, the EFI’s strategy will supplement their own five level programme. The EFI uses the resources for the three levels of coach qualification, from the Introduction to Coaching course, through Levels 1, 2 and 3, to Level 4 which is Olympic, World and European Championship level coaching.

“The BSJA is delighted to be working with the Equestrian Federation of Ireland in respect of their coaching resources,” said Mrs Jacky Wood, BSJA Chief Executive. Comdt John Ledingham , chairman of the EFI Coaching Committee has been working with Di Lampard (BSJA Consultant Head of Training) and Nicky Fuller (BSJA Director of Coaching) to implement the new resources.

The EFI Coaching Programme is designed to give trainers a thorough understanding of coaching principles, and the hands-on experience of applying these principles in practice. Tutors include many of Ireland’s top ranking, high achieving riders and experienced coaches.

Coaches across Britain are pleased with the new system. Malcolm Pyrah, a BSJA Accredited Coach said: “This will support out coaches and help to keep us working towards modern coaching principles which can only be good for our sport and competitors over the coming years.”
