Emaciated pony dumped ‘like rubbish’ on farmland *warning: graphic image*

  • The RSPCA is appealing for witnesses after the body of an emaciated filly was found dumped on farmland in northern Lincolnshire.

The skewbald pony, who was aged between two and three years, was found at around 6pm on Saturday evening (3 December).

RSPCA inspector Daniel Bradshaw is calling for information from anyone who might have seen a vehicle dumping the pony on land belonging to Vale Farm, just off Scawby Road in Brigg.

“I’m asking anybody who may have seen a vehicle such as a truck, trailer or van in the area, or anyone who may recognise this little pony, to come forward and get in touch with me,” he said.

The pony is described as around 14hh with a predominantly white face.

“It looks like she was already dead when she was dumped, but she was in extremely poor body condition with her ribs, hips and spine easily visible,” Daniel said. “She also had blood coming from her nose and mouth and her hooves were in poor condition, which shows she was severely neglected until her death.

“From the tow strap around her neck it looks like she was dragged off the back of a vehicle.”

He added that the spot had been used for fly-tipping on previous occasions.

“To treat an animal like rubbish is disgraceful,” he said. “What a terrible ending to a very short life for this poor pony. Time and time again we are called about incidents like this involving horses with no microchip so we can’t trace an owner and this is why it’s so important that any one with any information comes forward to let us know.”

The RSPCA say that anyone with information about the case can contact Daniel via the inspector appeal line on 0300 1238018.
