Leading thoroughbreds to receive awards


  • Large- and small-scale Thoroughbred breeders are to be honoured in the 2004 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (TBA) awards, which are taking place in London on 11 January.

    Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms takes the Queen’s Silver Cup for leading British-based flat breeder for the third year.

    Pivotal, who stands at Cheveley Park Stud, scoops both the BBA Silver Cigar Box (for the leading British-based stallion for earnings) and the Barleythorpe Stud Cup for Cheveley Park (for the leading British-based stud in terms of winners).

    Dubai Millennium (GB), who died of grass sickness in 2001 during his first season at stud, is honoured with the Tattersalls’ Silver Salver for leading British-based first season flat sire.

    Kirsten Rausing’s Alouette (GB) scoops the HJ Joel Silver Salver for broodmare of the year, and the TBA Silver Rose Bowl for flat breeder of the year goes to Lord Derby’s Stanley House Stud, recognising the achievements of Ouija Board.

    Attraction, another 2004 star, earns the Flat Special Merit Award for the Duke of Roxburghe’s Floors Stud. Elite Racing Club, owner-breeder of Soviet Song, takes the Langham Cup for small flat breeder, the first owners’ syndicate to do so.

    Alflora, from Shade Oak, takes the Whitbread Silver Salver for the leading active British-based stallion for earnings, and the H&H Cup for individual chase winners.

    Laurel Diver, the only mare kept by Sue Mills, gains the Dudgeon Cup for leading national hunt broodmare, and David and Anne Hockenhull of Shade Oak Stud in Shropshire are the recipients of the Queen Mother’s National Hunt Achievement Award.
