British Eventing introduces new BE105 class

  • British Eventing (BE) will introduce a pilot BE105 class this year.

The new class will initially be introduced at a small number of events across the country to gauge its popularity.

BE105 will feature a maximum fence height of 1.05m and will consist of a novice dressage test, 1.05m showjumping course and an “enhanced” BE100 cross country course.

The class is intended to provide competitors with an opportunity to “ease the transition” from BE100 to novice level, with the cross-country course seeing a mixture of BE100 and novice fences, with some additional elements.

Cross-country courses will also be increased in their technicality from BE100. BE105 competitors will be expected to ride at 500 meters per minute, over a course of between 1,800m and 2,800m, with a maximum of 27 efforts.

“I am delighted we are piloting the BE105 concept this year,” said BE sport operations manager Chris Farr.

“Michael Munden (Bricky Horse Trials organiser) first piloted this idea in 2014 and his help and advice has been invaluable. Having received feedback from members about the ‘step up’ to novice being a hurdle this is aimed at helping members with the transition to the next level.

“Combining this new class with the BE training and education courses should provide members with the confidence to move up to novice when they are ready.”

Those wishing to enter the pilot class are asked by BE to complete a short survey as to the reasons for their entry.

Minimum entry requirements for the BE105 class are the same as for BE100Plus classes.
