William Fox-Pitt returns to UK following eventing fall

  • William Fox-Pitt has returned to England following three weeks in hospital in France.

The Olympic eventer suffered a head trauma when he fell at fence 20, an owl hole, on the cross-country at Le Lion d’Angers while riding Reinstated on Saturday 17 October.

He flew back to the UK yesterday (Monday 9 November) and will continue his rehabilitation here.

“His recovery is likely to take time, but he is up and about and improving day by day,” said his wife Alice.

“We are exceptionally grateful for the huge amount of support we have received.”

The pair were competing in the seven-year-old CCI2* class at the FEI/WBFSH world championships for young eventing horses.

The horse, whom William first competed in May 2014 at Chatsworth, was not injured in the fall.

The course was held for more than an hour while William received medical assistance.

William, who currently stands at number three in the world eventing rankings, had already completed the course successfully on his first ride, The Soapdodger.

William’s last win was at the CIC3* at Hartpury in August with Bay My Hero.
