World Horse Welfare Expands
World Horse Welfare has announced ambitious new plans to help thousands more working horses in Africa, Latin America and Asia in 2015.
The charity currently works in 10 countries including Cambodia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, Senegal, South Africa and Lesotho.
“Our plan is to double the number of countries we work in by 2017,” said the charity’s press officer.
The work will be carried out through partnerships with human development organisations in the new countries.
In the UK work has just begun on a new indoor school and visitor centre at Glenda Spooner Farm, the charity’s Somerset rehabilitation and rehoming centre.
The school will be available for hire to the wider equestrian community.

Daisy Bunn Christmas concert raises £8,000
A Christmas carol concert organised by Hickstead director Daisy Bunn has raised over £8,500 for charity.
Equestrian celebrities including Clare Balding, Martin Clunes, Jodie Kidd did readings at the concert, held on 2 December at St James’ Church in Islington.
All the proceeds from the concert, raffle and auction have been donated to help patients suffering from NDPH, a rare and debilitating disease.
Daisy Bunn was herself a sufferer and is donating all the funds from the concert to provide pain psychology treatment for patients that can’t afford it.
RDA group presented with £15,000
Broadlands Group RDA, in Medstead, Hampshire was presented with a cheque for £15,000 from the Southern Co-operative on 13 December.
The funds will be used to rejuvenate the group’s indoor school, buy a new mounting block and build a storeroom for equipment.
The money was raised at the Southern Co-operative’s Alresford shop as part of its community support scheme.
“It is a massive help and we are very grateful to the Southern Co-operative store,” said Mrs Suzanne Stratford.
“We can now take riders to the regional show, out for rides in the New Forest and plan other activities,” she added.
Mrs Stratford’s mother Flora Welch set up the Broadlands RDA group in 1955. A party is being held on 11 July to mark the 60th anniversary.
The group has eight ponies and offers weekly riding sessions to disabled children and adults three days a week throughout the year.

Beaufort hunt raises funds for Tetbury hospital
The Beaufort hunt came up with an ingenious idea of what to do with the leftover table decorations after the hunt ball in November – sell them for charity.
The sale organised by hunt supporter Amanda Montgomerie and her daughter Beatrice raised £400 for Tetbury hospital’s one stop eye-care clinic appeal.
The appeal wants to buy two pieces of optical equipment to create a much-needed one-stop approach to ophthalmic care at the hospital.
“The Beaufort is delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile and local cause,” said Beaufort joint master Captain Ian Farquhar.
The cheque was presented to the hospital at the Beaufort’s annual New Year meet in the Railway car park, Tetbury.
