Wild Lone dies after WEG cross-country

British team member Harry Meade‘s Wild Lone died after his cross-country round at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) earlier today (Saturday 30 August).

A statement release by the event organisers confirmed that Wild Lone collapsed and died shortly after Harry had dismounted at approximately 4.15pm local time. A post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

The pair were the final British representatives on course today and finished the cross-country clear with 26.4 time-faults.

Harry had produced Charlotte Opperman’s 13-year-old by Doranstown Hello throughout his career. He finished third at Badminton this year, surpassing all his previous form when the difficult conditions meant his prowess in the jumping phases came to the fore.

Harry’s Badminton result and subsequent selection for WEG from the reserve bench marked an amazing comeback for the rider, who dislocated and broke both his elbows in a fall at Wellington last year.
