Former showjumper Presley Boy has been put down after suffering with laminitis for two years. The 17-year-old stallion by Concorde died earlier this month.
Presley Boy was retired from competition in 2012 and had been standing at stud at ECR De Moretter in Belgium since February.
“He had endured two long years fighting laminitis,” said a spokesman for Saudi Equestrian. “Sadly after a long list of complications, it was decided the kindest and most respectful decision for this amazing sire, was to put him to sleep.”
He had covered several mares before his death, with hopes of providing a legacy.
Presley Boy was previously campaigned by Mexican rider Jamie Azcarraga before joining Saudi Equestrian in 2010.
Over the next two years he competed with Khaled Al Eid.
With Khaled Presley Boy won the CSI5* Gijon Grand Prix in 2010, was second in the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi 2011 and 12th at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.
He had been aimed at the Olympics but in July 2012 he developed endotoxemia, which was followed by an acute case of laminitis and he was taken to Belgium for intensive veterinary care.
